Description
From the Manufacturer
An evolution in design, a revolution in performance. The Canon EOS D60 takes the highest standards of the photographic world and brings them into the digital one. Combine an innovative 6.3 megapixel CMOS image sensor with the superior optics of our EF lenses, and you have the power to capture the finest details with brilliant color fidelity, wider tonal range, and smoother gradations. You’ll do it fast, too: three frames per second in eight-shot bursts at the highest resolution.
The EOS D60 is highly advanced, yet features like autofocus, auto exposure, and a built-in flash make it remarkably simple to use. And since it integrates seamlessly into the EOS system, you can pursue your most creative ideas without limitations. The new Canon EOS D60. Digital photography is finally worthy of its name.
Resolution and Optics
With 6.3 effective megapixels, true photographic quality has finally been brought to the digital domain. A huge 22.7 x 15.1mm imaging area is the first advantage you’ll notice. But behind it, Canon’sCMOS technology is providing high-level signal processing and an array of noise reduction improvements that rely on very small amounts of power. So you can do more with less. Plus, two filters — a hybrid infrared filter and an RGB primary color filter — put vivid, accurate color at your fingertips.
Sharper images. Wider tonal range. Virtually no color bleeding. Thanks to the D60 onboard Digital Signal Processing (DSP) chip, you’re in control — not the camera. And the best part is, it’s fast. Image data flows from the CMOS sensor at blazing speed, unhindered by signal noise and other garbage. Which means you have more latitude to crop, enlarge, or retouch pictures with minimal deterioration and superior results.
Some of the best photographs in the world have been missed while the camera processes previous shots. Not with the EOS D60. We improved the memory buffer so that you can shoot 8-frame bursts at 3 frames-per-second and get the highest-quality JPEG and RAW images without waiting for images to load. The result: fast-moving action scenes as easy as a still life.
Sometimes you want the convenience of a JPEG image. Other times, you need the maximum image qualitythat only a RAW file can provide. With the EOS D60, you no longer have to decide in advance! Every D60 RAW file contains an embedded 2048 x 1360 JPEG file that can be extracted instantly with the supplied driver software. You can still set the camera to shoot JPEGs only with up to 6 variations in resolution and compression, but no matter what format you choose, the final picture will be clear, crisp, and accurate. And uniquely yours.
Improved Autofocus
We’re always improving the technology behind our AF systems, and with the D60, you get to enjoy the benefits. Exceptional low light performance, right down to EV0.5. An improved laser matte screen for easier manual focusing. Superimposed, illuminated AF points for framing and focusing. And manual or automatic focusing point selection. Like most of our advancements, it’s all based on the opinions of some very important photographers: our customers.
Improved Shutter Release
Get released from slow shutter release. With the D60 we not only significantly reduced lag time, we stabilized it as well. So the shutter release is the last thing that will mess up a perfect photo. Digital noise at slow shutter speeds up to 30 seconds, which can degrade image quality significantly with conventional digital cameras, no longer requires a custom function to be reduced with the D60. And when digital noise is under control, you’re in better control of what you want the camera to do.
Improved Viewfinder
You’ll see it as soon as you bring the camera to your eye. A much improved viewfinder–not to mention every piece of information you’ll ever need, from aperture to shutter speed to exposure level to flash ready status. And you’ll be able to monitor the number of shots you have left at the maximum burst rate, see focusing points illuminated, and more. It’s all neatly organized and extremely intuitive, and right there in front of your eyes.
Eleven Shooting Modes
No matter what the subject or the situation, the EOS D60 has it covered. Eleven different shooting modes can be selected — all from a single convenient Command Dial. There’s a fully automatic Intelligent Program AE mode, Shutter Priority AE for action shots, Aperture Priority AE to favor depth of field, and an automatic depth-of-field mode. You can also choose from Programmed Image Control modes for Portraits, Landscapes, Close-ups, Sports Shots, and Night Scenes. Manual control is also an option. From up close to far away and everything in between, the D60 is the choice for choice.
Three Metering Modes
Lighting can make or break a photo. The D60 puts the odds in your favor with three different metering modes to handle even the trickiest light situations. The 35-Zone Evaluative Metering analyzes the entire scene and bases optimum exposure on the main subject. Partial Metering is limited to 9.5% of the picture area, identified by a circle on the focusing screen. And Centerweighted Average Metering averages the entire picture area with maximum emphasis on the center. Plus, Canon’s E-TTL (Evaluative Through-The-Lens) flash exposure control adds a high-tech advantage for accurate lighting. In other words, with the D60, you won’t be afraid of the dark — or the light.
Four Shooting Parameters
Not many cameras allow you to improve your shots before you even finish taking them. But with the D60, sharpness, contrast, color saturation, and color tone (flesh tones) can all be emphasized or de-emphasized according to your preferences — during the initial image processing. Preferences can be saved, too. It’s just one more way to give you more creative control up front, and one less thing to do when you’re done.
EOS Integration
Since the D60 is fully EOS compatible, you’ll have access to the same lenses used by professional photographers and amateurs alike. Get closer, with the world’s widest selection of autofocus lenses, from ultra-wides to super-telephotos. Or get a better look, with macro lenses designed for close-up shooting. Whatever your needs, the Canon EOS system has the tools to let you express yourself. The only limit is your imagination.
Comprehensive Flash System
Whether you’re after true point-and-shoot style flash photography, or more advanced lighting, you’ll find it in the D60. The built-in pop-up flash is automatically triggered when needed in Full Auto Mode, or you can choose to turn it on or off yourself. Red-eye reduction, wide-angle coverage, and slow sync can be used. Plus, the D60 features Canon’s exclusive E-TTL Flash, which instantly analyzes dozens of criteria and adjusts the flash accordingly. A flash of brilliance to say the least.
